The Morelli Convertible Tube Cap Removal Instrument is the complete instrument — a 130 mm stainless steel handle fitted with a replaceable detacher blade — used to lift the cap off single, double and triple convertible buccal tubes. The blade is a wear part: when it dulls, it is exchanged for a new one rather than replacing the instrument. The handle also accepts scalpel blades.

Key Features

  • Removes caps from single, double and triple convertible tubes — the cap is lifted without removing the tube or disturbing the bonded base.

  • Replaceable blade: the 33 mm detacher blade is exchanged when it dulls, so the handle stays in service indefinitely.

  • Supported by a dedicated consumable — replacement blades are supplied in packs of five.

  • Also accepts scalpel blades, extending the handle beyond convertible-tube conversion.

  • 130 mm stainless steel handle gives the leverage and reach needed to work at the posterior segments.

  • Autoclavable at 121 °C (250 °F) for reprocessing between patients.

Clinical Applications

  • Cap removal from convertible buccal tubes — converting a tube to an open slot when the treatment plan calls for it, without debonding the attachment.

  • Multi-tube configurations — the same instrument works on single, double and triple tube configurations across the arch.

  • Scalpel blade holding — the handle also holds scalpel blades, so it can serve as a blade holder in the same setup.

What happens when the blade finally dulls?
Nothing is discarded — the 33 mm blade is simply exchanged. Keep a pack of replacement detacher blades on hand and the 130 mm handle stays in service for as long as the practice needs it.
