Opened Distal Bender

The Morelli Opened Distal Bender is used to bend and finish the orthodontic wire distally, turning the excess that projects behind the last tube and avoiding discomfort for the patient. It is the opened version of the instrument: the working tip carries a slot instead of a hole, so the wire is engaged from the side rather than threaded through an enclosed opening.

Key Features

  • Open slot tip — the wire enters laterally through an open groove, with no need to pass the end through a hole.

  • Engages wire already in place — the instrument can be brought onto the distal excess of an archwire that is still tied in.

  • Curved working end — the curvature of the instrument makes application in the posterior region easier.

  • Accepts wire up to .022″ — sized for .022″ archwires and smaller gauges.

  • Stainless steel construction — corrosion resistant and dimensionally stable across repeated sterilization cycles.

  • Autoclavable at 121 °C (250 °F) — reusable instrument validated by Morelli for steam sterilization.

Archwire already engaged?
The Opened Distal Bender takes the wire through a lateral slot, so the bend is made without threading the end — choose the Closed version when a fully enclosed hole is preferred.
